‘SHABASH CHOTA COMMANDO!’ That's how my journey to RDC ended on a blissful note. Now, you might be thinking about the beginning. So, let me flip back a few pages of my life and take you to the beginning.
In the realm of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the Republic Day Camp (RDC) is a crucible that forges cadets into resilient leaders. My journey towards the RDC began in 2019 during the Thal Sainik Camp (TSC), where whispers of this formidable challenge reached my ears through the tales of seasoned seniors. Little did I know that the ensuing months would become a testament to my strength, determination, and the indomitable spirit of the NCC. As CSM Saniya Borawake, I bring to you a chronicle of my RDC 2020 odyssey through the NCC Directorate Maharashtra.
“In the tapestry of trials, where challenges unfurl,
A cadet’s journey, a story to twirl.”
I started off my journey with a fiercely competitive school-level competition. The stage was set, and cadets from various schools showcased their skills, each vying for a coveted spot in the subsequent rounds. It was here that the gravity of the competition struck me, prompting a realization of the commitment and dedication required to distinguish oneself in the NCC community. Despite the tough competition, my determination saw me through, earning me a ticket to the next level i.e. Inter-Group Competition. The journey progressed. And as destined, I found myself in the heart of the Inter-Group Competition representing the Pune Group. This phase amplified the challenges, pitting me against the best cadets from a broader pool. The intensity of the competition was palpable, pushing me to refine my skills, understand the importance of teamwork, and cultivate the camaraderie that would prove indispensable in the trials that were about to come.
She’s a talented cadet and a wonderful friend. Not only did she deliver a stellar performance during the camp, but also expressed maturity at such a young age by her behaviour and conduct. Personally speaking, she has been a good friend and a good listener, qualities seldom seen in someone her age these days.

Trials, as I mentioned. The next trial in the row was Best Cadet JW Army. Amidst the fierce competition, recognition came my way as I was bestowed with the title of the Best Cadet Junior Wing (JW) Army. This honor underscored my dedication and relentless effort. However, the journey took an unexpected turn when a re-examination was announced due to unforeseen issues. Unyielding in my resolve, I faced this challenge head-on and proved my mettle once again. Now, I was able to see the doors of my destination being opened wide and clear but little did I know, God has a few more trials. At this point I was reminded of my JCO Kiran Mane Sir’s words, ‘JAYADA UDO NAHI, DILLI ABHI DUUR HAI!’
From the times cried in fruntration to tears when we won!
Cleaning for line area to chilling in recreation room.
From taking fruit&nut from CSD to eating other refreshments.
RDC was full of stupendous memories and unparalleled experiences .

Overcoming the outer trials, now it was the time to face my inner strength. Just a day after being selected for the re-exam, fate dealt a harsh blow as I suffered a hand fracture. It was a setback that could have easily disheartened me, but the true spirit of a cadet refuses to succumb to adversity. Despite the fracture, I participated in rifle shooting with the same hand, scoring well and showcasing a level of determination that left an indelible mark on my journey. As if a hand fracture was not challenging enough, fate threw another curveball my way. After the removal of the plaster, I tested positive for dengue and was admitted to the Military Hospital in Khadki. The hospital became both a physical and emotional battleground, where I witnessed injured soldiers displaying unwavering enthusiasm and determination. Inspired by their resilience, I decided that giving up was not an option. Even in the face of illness, I remained steadfast in my commitment to the RDC.
You were truly one of the finest juniors I’ve had – a reliable and joyous presence in the room. You were my go-to person, and your cheerful demeanor made you my cute lil bub!

As the chain of programs followed, now it was time to explore the melody. As a cadet and as CSM Saniya Borawake, I had the opportunity to be a part of the group song also. This experience transcended showcasing musical talents; it emphasized the importance of collective effort and coordination. The group song became a metaphor for the collaborative spirit that is fundamental to the success of any mission. It was a reminder that individual excellence is magnified when combined with the strength of a unified team.
I’m glad that I was a part of RDC 2020, I met many people in the camp amongst all of them Saniya was the bravest and intelligent. She is good at her speech and very intelligent cadet. She taught me a lot of things.

The zenith of my RDC journey was marked by a significant achievement – securing the 5th position in the Directorate General (DG) NCC. The journey, laden with challenges and setbacks, had prepared me for this moment. It was not merely a personal triumph but a testament to the resilience and determination that defines the spirit of the National Cadet Corps.
Now, as I look back I feel amidst the challenges and rigorous training, moments of camaraderie and joy played a crucial role in keeping the spirits high. Fun-filled interactions with fellow cadets, shared laughter, and mutual support became the pillars of strength that sustained us through the arduous journey. The guidance and support of commanding officers further fueled our determination, turning challenges into opportunities for growth. The RDC journey was not just about winning accolades; it was a transformative experience that equipped me with invaluable skills. One of the most crucial skills I acquired was effective communication in the flag area. The ability to convey information clearly and concisely is a trait that not only enhances one’s leadership capabilities but also fosters a sense of unity within the team.
Poetic Conclusion:
"In the tapestry of trials, where challenges unfurl,
A cadet’s journey, a story to twirl.
Through fractures and fevers, and battles so grand,
In the heart of adversity, I took my stand.
Rifle in hand, with a fracture unseen,
In the face of setbacks, I remained serene.
Dengue’s embrace, yet a fire within,
For soldiers in Khadki, my resolve did begin.
From the flag area’s whispers to the song of the group,
In camaraderie’s embrace, we found the troop.
With buddies by my side and officers true,
We danced through the hardships, the grey turning blue.
AIR 5 in DG NCC, a triumph complete,
Not just a victory, but a tale sweet.
Through communication in flags and a song sung strong,
I learned life’s melodies, where I truly belong.
So let this journey, a testament be,
To the spirit unyielding, resilient, and free.
In the echoes of challenges, in triumphs untold,
A cadet’s journey, a saga to unfold.
